HTML
HTML, which is an abbreviation of HyperText Markup Language, is a standard used when creating web pages. Keywords are used, called 'tags', which define how a web browser will format and display the content (such as text and images).
HTML tags commonly come in pairs, such as
and
or and . The first tag in a pair is called the opening tag and the second tag is called the closing tag. Between these tags, programmers can add text, more tags, comments and other types of text-based content.

- The text between the
and
tags describes the web page.
- The
and
tags are used to access the tab at the top of a browser window. Between these tags, you can include the
and
tags to add text into the tab. For example,

My Web Page

will put the text 'My Web Page' in the tab.
- The
and
tags are used to add content to the main section of the web page.
- The
and
tags are used to automatically add some space before and after each
tag.
- When you want to hyperlink some text or an image, it is placed within the and tags.
For example,Eduqas will be displayed the word 'Eduqas' and hyperlink it to www.eduqas.co.uk. Note: it is important to include the protocol https:// in the hyperlink. - The tag is slightly different, as it does not contain a closing tag. For example, will display the image file logo.gif.
- The
and
tags are used to create a large heading. The size of the heading will decrease as you decrease the number.
and
creates the smallest heading you can have.
- The following tags can be use to change the format of text:
- and changes text to bold
- and changes text to italics
- and changes text to underline
- The
and
tags are used centre align text and images on the web page.
-
tag is used to move text in from the margins to make it stand out. For example,
To be or not to be
would indent "To be or not to be" from the right and left margins.
-
is the horizontal rule tag and creates a horizontal line which is used to separate content in an HTML page.
- To create a bullet pointed list, we need to use the tag for an unordered list, which is
. For each line in the list we use the
tag. For example to create a bullet pointed list of Apple, Oranges and Pears, you would use:

Apples

Oranges

Pears
